On the afternoon of March 31 local time, the president of the European Council, Michelle, convened a video conference with the president of the European Commission, the President of the European Central Bank and the president of the Eurogroup, follow-up on the socio-economic impact of the new coronavirus outbreak on the EU since the EU summit on March 26 and the next steps. In a statement released that evening, Michelle said that to boost the EU economy, all available tools must be used at the national and EU levels, and that the EU budget must be adjusted to the current crisis. Michelle also said the EU urgently needed a coordinated exit strategy from the crisis, a comprehensive recovery plan and unprecedented investment. The European Council has given the Eurogroup two weeks to submit a plan, and the Council and Commission will work together with institutions such as the European Central Bank to develop a recovery plan.
